Last of the free oak. Glad that's over. Been working 126-138.5 hrs per two week periods. Swing shifts too. But managed to get this done today in the rain. I worked night shift got home at 7am got a few hours sleep and got the oak home. 3 trailer loads and some in the truck bed. Fun thing is I have to get up at 330 am and back to work for 12.5 hrs IMG_20240922_160503183_HDR.jpgIMG_20240922_155805337_HDR.jpgIMG_20240922_155755531.jpg

The logger is just finishing up at my property. Got done a lot sooner than expected because of the great weather (no rain, ground stayed firm).

We have two trail cameras set up, and this is the first Buck since June ... and it is not a shooter (3 pt rule)!

What do you guys think? It idles high like it’s Lean when sitting upright, turn it to either side and it goes back to normal. Isn’t this typical of a crank seal(s).

I do need to pull the tank pick up to make sure it does not have a hole in it or is broken off but that should not matter cause it’s full of gas, and it would die when recoil was facing up since it goes in the tank that side.

It ran fine 2 months ago when I cut a stump off with it. Had to do a YouTube link because it wouldn’t let me upload the video directly

Big air leak…

I’m very squeaky cheap,
Still have your baptism money don't you!🤣

On a happier note from my last post, Ellie is still with us and seems to be doing better. I talked to the vet and she said Ellie will have good days and bad days. For me, deciding when the bad outweighs the good will be the hard part. My hope is she just passes in her sleep. Last weekend was a gut check for me and my family. We obviously know she won't live forever but her struggle made it real for us. It's a good start to the impending healing process. Thanks everyone for your kind words.
We lost ours 2 yrs ago. Middle of the night she went into seizures and I had to do it myself. Sucked big time and she is buried out back with flowers over her. Time goes so fast with them.
That's my biggest fear...having to do it myself.
So sorry to hear 🙏🙏🙏🙏 many prayers your way brother
Thank you.
Bummer.
Great pictures.
Thank you.
SO sorry for your impending loss.
None of us get out of here alive but it sure sucks a$$ when you have to "Play God" and send a dear, loved friend and partner to her great reward..
I wish you and your family Peace in this very hard part of life.
Thank you.
Did not know whether to put a happy or sad response! Been down this road many times, and our current dog (Lucy) is almost 17 and in decline (wearing a diaper). Did not think she was coming home from the Vet a few months ago, but she did and has been doing OK (he kept her for 5 days).

Looks like you had some real good times with your dog, so remember them well.

Like I have told my wife in the past, it is more important to remember the years of good times than to dwell on the days of bad times.

Unfortunately, for all of us, death is part of life.
Thank you.
So sorry to hear about your dog. Two years ago we put our Sporter Chocolate Lab down. I still miss that sweetheart dog.
Thank you.
I'm so far behind I have been skimming... This post struck a cord for me. Sorry to hear of your dog's ills. My English Setter, Mose, is also about 13. He was a superb upland dog... the regional director of Ruffed Grouse Society trained him. Due to a move driven by a job change by his wife he had to thin out his kennel. He gave me Mose... steady on the point, steady to the gun, and he set me up for many successful shots on pheasant, grouse, quail and woodcock.

I spent an hour and a half sitting in the outdoor dog run last night as Mose is suffering with congestive heart failure also. He could barely breathe and couldn't stand. I bundled him up and comforted him. The look in his eyes was like he was having a panic attack.... It was nearly 11 PM when he was calmed down, breathing pretty well, and regained his feet. We went back into the house. I was prepared to find him deceased this morning... To my relief he was actually pretty good this morning and this evening.

He has light liver spots and the mud kind of overwhelms them in this photo from October 1, 2017... opening day for pheasant. The past few seasons he didn't get much field time as he was deteriorating with age. He'll get none this year.

He's a great looking dog. Sounds like he had a great life also.
From the second I held him, I knew he was the one for me. Love this dog and he loves me and my girls back

My daughter would be lost without him
My best friend loves him for finding his deer
And he is a great companion at campView attachment 1205577View attachment 1205576View attachment 1205575
Thank you.
It's hard to watch... I had a lot of memorable hunts with Mose. He liked attention and loved to hunt... In the field he responded to whistle, verbal and hand commands. He generally stayed within shotgun range in heavy cover and would hold a point indefinitely in wide open spaces. It was a pleasure watching him hunt.
It is hard to watch. It sucks seeing Ellie like this. She used to hunt 6-10 hours a day. Now she is gassed after a mile walk on the road. I can remember almost every hunt with her, many of the birds she flushed, the look I'd get from her when I missed and her crazy bark/yelp after she was hot on the trail of a pheasant for a few hundred yards and the bird finally flushed. She loved all bird hunting but pheasants were like crack to her. I love that dog!

Thanks again everyone for the kind words. She's my first dog and I don't think I'm ready for the heartbreak...

Good morning guys

Had a good but fast weekend. Not many ducks flying for opener, but we ended up getting 10 between the two mornings including three redheads, which are amongst the best eating ducks IMO.

Tried to put up some pictures, but most are too big for this new silly photo hosting that they’re using.

Sounds like a good weekend! Glad you got some shooting!

Could you take the pictures you intend to post with a lower resolution on your phone? That would save you a step. The resolution is so high on the new phones which makes for nice pictures but they also take up a whole lot of memory. I'm still rockin' a Samsung S9 so I don't have any problems!🤣

I was scanning posts and read "had a good fast weekend......including three redheads" and I thought Whoa!!!!!

Good morning folks,

Had a nice weekend at the camp and got some more work done on the screen room down by the water. I was short 3 2x6's for my rafters  so they will be going on next weekend as well as the purlins. Next step after that is to order the metal roofing. 194231.jpg144624.jpg

Thought of you cast iron guys when I prepared one of the geese I harvested recently. I marinated them in oil, salt and pepper, then onto the BBQ at 200 degrees until I got to an internal temp of 115. I let the breasts rest while onions were cooking in the pan and then dropped the breasts and some freshly minced garlic in to sear. They turned out pretty darn good, but I would like them just a tad more on the rare side. Good thing I have 9 more geese to experiment with.221844.jpg223606.jpg
Not pictured was the healthy dose of horseradish :baba: that accompanied the goose steaks.

Sounds like a good start to the season! I was out scouting yesterday morning and I think I found where I want to set up for our duck opener next Tuesday. My favorite ducks for eating around here are definitely wood ducks. They don't stick around for long though. The first sign of frost and the wood ducks and teal start heading south.

I could but then they are lower quality shots forever, for every use. For the little posting I do on here I will just have to reduce each pic.

LOL!

Funny cause the two dishwater blondes who I had dated and both had dyed to red were crazier than any natural redhead I have ever met lol. One of the best "ya mad, bro" moments ever was bringing the younger, hotter one out to the bar and the older one who I had recently stopped dating was there and she immediately left in a huff, leaving mostly full drinks at her table.

It's OK stuff. Not the end all be all. We used it on the trucks and conveyers/salt spreaders at the township. Needed re applied after the trucks got washed off, or we had rain for a week, or we plowed slush... Basically anytime the film got washed away. At minimum it will need reapplied yearly on the trucks we didn't plow with.

something didn't go right, used it several times with good results. Only thing I never liked about it is it needs top coated.(extra expense on an already very expensive product.) Switched to using a rust converter and 2 part epoxy paint on frames. My cousin did similar on his 74 f-150 frame back in 2014 and so far there still no signs of rust coming through.
It does say that you can top coat it. I didn't see anywhere on the can saying that it had to be top coated. I have used this paint on a few other items and it seems to be holding up fine.

I haven't gotten a redhead yet. With my eyes, I try to stick to larger ducks or else I would end up with a limit of shovelers. I did shoot a canvas back once, that was pretty good.

Our teal season started, but they don't start pumping water into the public lands so there's little water to set up in. Plus, it's been hot out.

Regarding POR-15; It says right on the can it is supposed to have paint over the top. At least the last can I bought said that.

Regarding Fluid Film, I use it on steel I don't want to rust that is generally stored inside. I know Easterners sometimes spray it on the underside of vehicles. It is better than no protection, but is easily removed, as Sean says, The tin worm is hard to kill. Different formulations of steel have varying resistance to the tin worm.
From what I understand on POR 15 it only needs to be top coated if it is going to be exposed to sunlight as it has no UV protection. I have painted sections of truck frame and other stuff on equipment that is hidden with it and nothing else and for the most part is still looks like the day I put it on. Other stuff that I have top coated was just spray bombed and it seems to be fairing well on the 5-10 year test so far.

Still waiting on a can. They are supposedly the most tasty wild duck if they have been eating the right stuff.

Side note: domestic duck is delicious-for those who have never tried it, I highly suggest you do. It reminds me of new york strip but without the beefiness. Lends itself to a fruit sauce like black cherry or orange.
