Ahhh put me down for 4. Just in case I ever switch to the dark side and need to dress up a old monster. Or should I attach one to a dolmar or husky to really confuse folks.

All those who increased your orders - they have been increased. Tomorrow I get to play the fun game of adding up all the orders, writing a big list of who ordered what, and phoning "The Man". Going to have to get my abacus out again...

Right folks, update time. Spoke to the fella today, now that he has received the NOS badge I sent him.
Told him I am ordering 400 of the badges, so he's keen to help and get the business.
He MAY have 2 different issues -

1) The inner , 45 degree angle of the "sawtooth" bits will be difficult to make sharp - he thinks he may only be able to achieve a radius of 0.75mm. I don't think this would be noticable at all, and people could correct it themselves with 4 easy, light strokes of a file if they wanted. The sharp end of the tooth will be sharp.
He has, however gone to talk to his cutter man, to see what they can do - and can send me an unprinted sample which I'll post a picture of up here for approval before ordering if he can't guarantee a good angle.

2) Colouring. He thought that the badge I sent him had faded from red to orange in the sun, and isn't sure if his printing/anodising man can replicate the orange. Personally, I would like the orange to be as NOS, but would be happy with red - the earlier badges were, after all, red and black, not orange and black.

He is to call me back once he's spoken to these guys and let me know what they say - I don't think he's ever dealt with anyone as picky as me before!

In the mean time, I would much appreciate your comments and thoughts on both (possible) issues - would this affect your decision to order? Hopefully enough people will comment to keep this at the top so everyone gets their say.

Cheers,

Patrick.

A couple of quick pics to show badge colours -

1st, from J. Walker - looks pretty red to me.

Secondly, from Brad - (high definition) -

New and old badges.

Another from J. Walker - not a badge obviously, unless you have a huge saw!

Some from Jerry, a bit blurred but decent for colour -

So, any opinions, people? ASAP please, I want to get the guy making these up quickly if possible and if people are happy with them!

I had to go find a set of calipers and plug in 0.75 mm to see what that looked like (for those of us not bi-lingual, think .030").
I don't see a problem. We're talking chainsaws here, not ancient museum pieces or a '37 Bugatti.
If the radii were to effect the bottom edges I would have a concern, but not the top angles.

Same thing with the color (colour?). :) Next to the orange of the saws the tag looks red anyway. When would the repro tags ever be that close to a real tag, which we would assume to be sun-faded anyway?

Sounds like this eliminates your "legal" issues, too! "Well, it isn't an EXACT copy..."

I vote to go for it! :chainsaw:

Could post pic of NOS covers BUT don't trust camera distortion....but they are
definitely A shade of red..... and black.

did not read their copy-rights !!!!!

Scroll down to red chart - somewhere between Amaranth and crimson / IMO
Tho can only speak for one !!
Happy to proceed.Your update shows not only consideration
but importantly,a good mind for detail !!

Will he be printing a sample or two before he prints all 400? The tool radius in the saw teeth is a non-issue to me.

He won't, as they'd be £120 apiece for one-offs for approval! Just an unprinted blank.
The radius I don't see as a problem in the least, it would literally be four strokes with a file (one for each "tooth" on the badge) if you absolutely had to get it perfect - I had an older badge I was going to send him before which had a few burrs on the edges, and it took me about 30 seconds flat to sharpen up a blunt tooth, smooth out the "log" profile, etc.

As for the colour, good to see that people aren't too pernickity about it - it seems there was a pretty wide range of colours used during their run originally, anyhow, from a pretty light orange to a darkish red!
All input welcome, and if anyone wishes to cancel their order it will not be too late until I've got the blank badge to check for fit, and spoken to the guy again about colour - maybe he can give me a RAL number or something!

Keep the comments coming...

Cheers,

Patrick.

Oh, PS - he is absolutely confident that he can duplicate the actual finish of the badge, it is definitely anodised and he has no problem with that.

sweet looking badges.

I would rep you but I am out of bullets at the moment.

Do they sell those special "badge" files at Bailey's?? :hmm3grin2orange::hmm3grin2orange::hmm3grin2orange:

Red's fine with me as I only have older saws!

The angle is also no problem here!

On another question: How do people remove the old rivets from an old faded scratched logo and how do you re rivet the new tags?
