Yeah I heard similar. But I'm thinking depends on who ports it and maybe as it's still new it may need more testing time. Brad snelling has a video of one he ported and it seems quite a bit more punchy than standard.

If you get the 661 don't bother porting it I hear.....not worth it apparently.

Remember that to get a hard on over a ported saw you have to run a stock example as well to gauge any performance increases or lack thereof :)
My thoughts are that certain builders make some poor choices when porting just in the quest to be different from other builders on AS as part of their "advertising".

Factory has a lot of $ in development.
Once they don't have to compromise as much for pollution there isn't as much low hanging fruit.
There is nothing special done to my 385, it's just a work saw. And I reckon it's about as hot as I want in a saw that I actually intend to work with. Can't see how a muff modded 661 wouldn't be at or near the same sort of performance. And I'd reckon it might just be a fair bit nicer to use.

Might have to do another muffler for it one day, might start a few less stringy's on fire.....

Haha hidey hole is one way to put it, there really is so much on this site that's for sure.
And I have a few saws I would like to own. My favourite saw I do own is a real tidy 98 model 046 magnum. It really goes so well for a stock saw.
But my next saw will be a ms661 I think. Or a 390xp so what's your saw of choice mate.?

the 046 is a fine little saw, they do up very well too, nothing wrong with the 661 either, as for a 390, well that's a husky (haha sorry Stihl men) so no need to comment.
Me, well I could run any of those and be happy.

I've used a 661 alongside a 395.....I preferred the 661 in my hands.....but everyone's hands are different and the 395 had at least a couple of hundred hours on it already and the 661 only maybe 5 hrs.

There's a bloke in Melbourne who did one and it looks like not much could stop it. Performance saws Australia. I'm happy with mine for now and the best thing is how little fuel it uses

seems slow seeing its its softwood, my 395 would eat it

That's exactly what the yanks say about saws in our wood :) Until you're cutting the exact same piece of wood it's a tough call.
Even a mildly ported 390XP will chew up a 660/395XP but port a 395XP and it's a different story.

That 661 has even got the yank builders talking. Mick is doing a few things a bit differently and they seem to be paying off.
