Long weekend

Hi everybody,

Hope you all have a great long weekend. I have a retaining wall to start building this weekend. I'm not going camping as it's double demerits, and the cops need to hit their revenue targets since the state is in the ####. So it's working around home weekend for me this weekend.

Enjoy your weekend everybody :msp_biggrin:

g,day men, just a quick one.
i have just found a leather man localy here who can make just about anything in leather, he is not a saddlemaker but has the right tooling to comercialy make leather goods affordably.

I just got another set of sawyers aprons for 1/2 the price and of better quality than my regular supplier.
An older guy who likes a talk which gave me an insite into what he makes, or can make.
he had bloody fallers pouches with all the right places for tooling and accomadated 2 alloy wedges,
bullet belts,,,, he has ?????? in stock in all different sizes includeing shotgun
being direct from the manufacturer, his priceing needs to be seen to be beleived.

anyone interested is anything made from leather, pm me and i can send details.

lastly,,,, he made the aprons in front of me from scratch including the belts and his machine stitching and riveting was something to watch.

Will,,, this is that opening for high quality leather bar covers we talked about a few months ago.

what happend to Bigdgb, haven't seen him posting since july, did we ever hear what happend to gumnuts?

I last spoke with Graham on the phone a couple of years ago and he was still building saws but he kind of faded away here. Not sure about the big fellow from Stawell.
I always wonder about forum bullies and their effect on new or more sensitive members. Luckily there don't seem to be any Aussies who have that nasty habit.

Neil,
I love good leather stuff. When I was a kid there was an amateur saddler down the road from me. He would make lovely slings for our airguns right in front of us, using his bunny knife, hammer and punches. Used to charge us a couple of bob but I am sure they cost him more than that.
I am interested in an apron - what kind of money do they run?
Al.

I've spoken to Dallas recently and the reasons for him not posting on AS have nothing to do with this site or the people on it. He'll be back for sure but is taking a bit of an AS siesta for very good reasons which I can't repeat here. Really good bloke and can't wait for him to get his ugly mug back on here (he'll probably ring me after reading the ugly mug bit :) ).
Take it easy Dallas!

You won't be dissapointed with the aprons Al.
I payed i think $69.00 including G for both aprons, 1st is a full apron without pockets and the 2nd is a half apron without pockets. He said a couple of dollars extra for a wide pocket or maybe wide pocket but stiched in the middle for 2 pockets.
They are made from soft light brown thick hyde, very flexable and not too heavy. The belts are stiff dark brown leather machine stitched, with rivets and he asked how many would i like.
But as he said, he can do it any way the customer wants useing the materials the customer wants.

The other aprons i used were stiff dark brown hyde with thin belts that break on the hole needed, take 2 months to break in and wear out in 6 - 8 months.
Their cost are something like $180.00 for a full apron and $90.00 for a half apron.
I should take a pic of these new ones and post.
