My first new saw was a Husky 266 in 81 or 82. I can't find the receipt, but I found the receipt for a Husky 181. Saw was cheap, but look at the cost of chain then.

A McCullough 55cc POS from Crappy tire, bought in a hurry to finish clearing a friend's lot in Petawawa before the excavators arrived. He paid for it so no great loss on my part, and was also used to cut firewood a few years afterwards. Still have it....nearly impossible to keep the chain properly tensioned for some reason. Moved on to better saws once I knew a little about them.

I bought a SXL 923 back in the mid '70s, just out of HS. No auto oiler, costs too much extra, and kicked myself every day after. Next saw was an Echo CS702...had both auto and manual oiler...and I was stopping to fill the oil tank before I ran out of gas a lot. I also went on a power trip and got a CS1001 echo, but it was way too much saw for MN.

Sold 'em all, went back to school, and was saw-less, until I took a Homie 330 in pay for taking a couple of trees down. That saw and a clunker ''65 Ford Pickup paid for a lot of my schooling for a couple of years...I still have it.

I got a Jonsered 70, but heard they were famous for losing the electronic ignitions, so I traded it in on a Jonsered 670. Burned that saw up a couple of years ago, and replaced the cyl. assy w/ 272 Husky parts. To tell the truth, I can't tell the difference.

Also have Jonsered 2040, 2149, 621, 625, and 90, as well as Husky 395. there's more in the barn, but the post is getting long enough.

First NEW saw...little bitty remington for 69 dollars...what a POS! Got stolen from my father's shop 14 years ago along with some valuables...never missed it.

Husqvarna 44 Rancher in the early 80's, it's been extremely dependable, wish every thing I've bought over the years gave me as much enjoyment!

First brand new saw was a Jonsered 2040 turbo, always got the "hand me downs" before. I hated that POS with a passion. I'm sure it might have been a lemon, but after trying to deal with the dealer and the Jonsered customer service, I'll never own one again. 4 new Stihls since, and not one issue. Been lucky.

Well my first saw was a Pioneer 1100 but it was grandpa's gift, along with a C-5 and a SXLAO. Then I built a motorcycle engine for another SXL as a trade. The only new saws I ever bought was a Husky 36 and a 028, still have the Husky and of course grandpa's saws. I just added more old Homelites and a Poulan XXV my Dad had near his lifes end. It's funny how you remember specific days and sounds about stuff like that isn't it. I can still see my grandpa in my mind with that old C-5 sitting on a stump and him showing me how to start that old Pioneer. That was his "little saw". Nothing replaces that. It stays with you forever and who would trade that memory?

In about '77 my buddy and I bought a brand new Husky 2100 w/34" bar (if memory doesn't fail me, could have been bigger) for a 'dead 'n'down' cedar claim I had lucked into to (about 25sq miles) on Vancouver Island. We did shake and shingle blocks as well as split rails, all delivered in my first acquired truck, a '51 Ford 3ton dually. The first thing buddy did was soup the beast up and void the warranty (we were young and dumb) and since the only saw I'd ever used before was a wee Homelite it took me a bit to stop shaking before I'd even fired it up, man that thing could cut. I believe it ran us around 700$ at the time and we paid for it (and the truck) in less than a week. It was brutal work but fun times, that saw never let us down but did become a bit temperamental after a couple of hundred hours hard usage and the temp dropped. *sigh*

first and only so far is my redmax,,around a '95-'96 vintage i think,,,still goes as strong today as it did new

MAC 605. $199. 1989 - moved to Seattle from Montana. Couldn't see out of the windows because of the trees (and gun-metal-grey skies). Raced off to buy it from a local home store while my wife was unpacking the boxes. Worst saw I've ever owned. Had a factory oiler problem that plagued me for years. Hard starting, poor running, vibrated my arms off. Bought an 034 Super in 1994, used the 605 about three times after that (to cut my other saws out when stuck). Sold it last year on Ebay for $239... :) It did look nice after cleaning...
