My first saw was a 1976 Pouland 4200 with a bow bar. I used it to cut firewood and in the years since used it to cut cedar and timber. I'm back to cutting firewood again. This week I had to replace the electonic module, other than vibration mounts, that is all I've had to do to it. It's been a good saw. I just found a repair shop that has a lot of parts for obsolete saws, so I guess the saw will last longer than I will

My first new saw was a Homelite XL from Wally Mart in June 1988. It was 99 bucks plus tax...great saw for what it is. It still is fairly sound mechanically speaking but needs work. That's teh only saw I had till I started selling wood in high school back in 1996. Then I bought the Mac3200...what a pile of crap! It did one or two hard jobs then wore out..I was probabl;y asking too much of it...after that a Stihl 025 and an 009 sold me on Stihl for teh long haul I think...but I would consider Husky, Jonsred or Dolmar/Makita also...but love Stihls.

It took a while before I bought a new saw because my used ones always ran like new. It was last year shortly after Charlie hit that I needed something that would cut an oak that was about 60 inches in diameter. So my first new saw was an ms 880 magnum. I am STIHL smiling.

A Poulan 2050 a year ago ! The engine blew a month after I got it.. I got the engine replaced under warranty and sold the saw.... Then I went and bought a new Husky 55 Rancher on ebay and havent been happier !

My first was a Mighty Mac in around '86. It lasted for about 1 cord of fire wood before it died. Replaced it with a Husky 50 which I recently donated and sent down to Mississippi to help with the hurricane cleanup. Still works great.

First and only new was in 1974 or 1975.Dayton version of Poulan s25[painted orange].Great little saw, still runs as good today as it did back then.Price was $139,on sale.I did buy a power pruner this year,so I guess you could say I've had 2 new ones.
With all this talk about carb problems,I might add that I have never had the carb off of this saw,in all those years.

I've nevewr had a new saw, and I've never run a new saw either. My dad got his 028 that I used for years from my uncle, my uncle has an 038 and a trim saw, an 009? I think the trim saw might have been bought new.
The only saw i have ever personally owned was a little homelite ez automatic that my grandfather gave me, since he had a newer stihl anyway.
I'm going to get a carb kit for the homelite today. -Phillip

My first new saw was a 2077 Jonsered. I bought it in 1994 and it still gets used on the landing from time to time.

Lets see, I guess my first saw I had any experience with was a Power Mac of my grandpa's in the 70's. My great uncle had a Stihl 031AV which was a great saw he purchased in 1976. I used it and kept in pristine condition until some SOB stole it a few years ago. The first saw I bought was a Shindaiwa 575 which was a great saw but it was stolen along with the 031. Then I purchased a Shindaiwa 350, next was a Stihl 044 and last saw purchased was a MS260. I love saws, what can I say?

First saw.

My father's first saw was a 3-25 McCuloch. My first new saw was a Poulan 3400 CV. I won it, or got it through a NAPA bonus points program they offered in 1982. Still have the saw and she's all original down to the spark plug. Did a muffler mod on her and she runs great.

My first saw of my own was a ms290. My first and only new saw was a ms180 I got for my 16th birthday. It runs good but why not just use the 046?

Has anyone done the math here? It seems to me that about half the first time NEW :) saw buyers are really happy with their original purchase. The same percentage are saying that it was an expensive step to what they should/would have purchased if they knew better. If I had the access to this site and your collective experience I would have made better decisions on my first, second and third new saws. I suppose advertising creates demand until experience weighs in, but this site is awesome for the homeowner/firewood guy (or gal) who can short circuit "learning by mistakes" :blob2: .

My first Brand new chain saw was a Husqvarna 455 Rancher (Just got it a few weeks ago. My first chain saw used was a small Stihl. My next chain saw used was a Husqvarna 55 Rancher and has been real good to me.

Where do you think I came up with my name?

However, my 066 is the new"est" saw I own. It had a hard life in BC before it came here to the "semi-retirement" home. Now it only gets out once a month if I'm lucky. All of mine are "old"....and will probably continue to be for a while.

Oldsaw,

Once they get old they stay old, atleast that`s what I`ve experienced. :D

My first new saw was an Echo CS750-EVL around late summer or early fall of `80. I`ve still got the receipt incase I ever get audited . I paid $425 and change. I think that I might have gotten taken, lol.

Stihl 011avt. Outstanding Saw! Wish I Still Had It. Lotta Memories With That Little Beast.

Here is my First saw, just as I got it, used. My grandfather still had the case, a homelite gas can, the adjustment tool, two homelite sparkplugs in original packaging, and a ton of homelite oil after all those years. -Phillip
