Last time I done the math.......MS660 has the best power/weight ratio
of any Stihl saw made to day.......MS260 was the worst, MS361 was
at the bottom of the list also.

To some extent it would make sense that as displacement decreases so does the power to weight. Look how well the ms260 and 361 compare in their respective classes.

Just the nature of building things, there is an effechancy to 'large' , just at the surface is the bar-nuts and fuel and oil caps are the same. But I would not have guessed that the 361 falls short in P/W ratio. But have noticed that racing darkness, I will grab my 660 if I'm in a real hurry.

Are there differences in the German 361 compared to the US built 361 ?

I remember seeing posts claiming the German 361's had just a hair more power than the US versions. Probably the EPA's doing.:chainsaw:

Having not ran my 361 , muff-modding it from new, I was not even interested in seeing the difference it would make, just from what Lake53 has mentioned,,,,,, I bet the Euro runs better.

I havn't done anything to mine and it runs fine. Sure I could make it faster but I figure the quicker it cuts the sooner I have to put it away! :greenchainsaw:

It did on mine........and not just added noise. :)

I did'nt think so myself............MS200T is at the bottom of
the list. @ .273hp per lb.

And the MS390 comes in @ .330hp per lb.

I saved the 'guts' from the stock 361 muff ,,,,, it is a 'convergant' duct works, well thought out, but choked to about a 9MM or about a .357 dia snorkel ,,,, not my idea of fun.

I know for a fact that my old Husky 55 in the woods will beat the pants off my 361 in the shed anyday!

I think the fastest stock saw is the one your using at the time - - and I don't know too many people that can use two at the same time. . .

Cylinder (porting) and muffler is different, nothing else -the US one beeing more EPA friendly, I guess - and rated at a minute .1kW less.

I believe they will be pretty much equal, with a muffler mod, and removal of any spark arrestors on the US one, but doesn't really know if the cylinder difference makes some sort of difference, and to what effect.....:greenchainsaw:

As I remember it, the CA version share the cylinder with the US one, and the muffler with the German one, and is rated as the German one.

Lakeside, where are you?????

For me too, even though I am a low-lander - the superb accelleration and rev willingness of that saw makes it a great limbing saw for mature birch, as well as a great felling and bucking saw....

:rockn: :rockn:

Mine is made in Germany.......

Forgot to say, the 5100S doesn't accellerate nearly as fast, even though it has higher top rpms.....

....but it isn't quite run in yet, so we will see.

Did someone mention the 70cc class?:hmm3grin2orange:

I think the 361 would be hard to beat...........

For accelleration, yes - none of my other saws are even close, and I had a hard time getting the rpms down to about 14000 (14080) - it wanted to run at 14600 for a while, and still sounded good, but I didn't dare to let it stay there......:D

since we havent had any arguments lately about which stock saw is the fastest, no modifications at all. I think its due time we had another thread on this.

so, which saw in any given class do you think is the fastest? I dont care if you say 090, 346XP, or what.
its just too happy around here. hope this doesnt get me banned lol

for me, I think the fastest stock saw in the 50cc class, is the 346xp, 70cc class 372XP, and in the 80cc class, my mac 250 :p
All I know is that my MS500i is the fastest I have personally used. 80 cc class.
