I'd like to open up the muffler on my 55 ancher . I'd like to buy one already all opened up and done by a perfeshonal like some of the muffler pics i have seen here. BUT I'm in the Cleveland area and i do not know where to get one please help. I still would like to buy another saw. I like nice toys but i'd like to stay under $600. and 13lbs or under. SOooo it looks like the 359 or 365 tho i saw a Stihl 390 for $550 1 guy said there pigs tho and he wasnt that thrilled with the 365. I wonder if he's even seen a 365? ( shrug ) I own a Husky 141 and a 55 Rancher Tho i do plan on getting 1 more saw. People told me i'm nuts i dont need it BUT i want it

Sure. You don't have to change anything. I came of age in the 70's. You could go out and buy a new GM car ( or Ford or MoPar) that would run just fine. Now you could yank off the QuadraJet carb and cast iron intake manifold and mount up an aluminum Eldebrock manifold and Holley 4-barrel carb. Change out the stock cam for a Crane or Isky model. Wack off the catalytic converter, if so equipped, and install a dual-exhaust system complete with a pair of low restriction mufflers. Pull the stock cast iron exhaust manifolds and get yourself a set of Hedman or Hooker headers.Yank the factory distributor and stick in a Mallory or Accel unit. Got to change out the wheels and tires. You can change a lot of stuff. But the car ran fine before you did all of this. Some people are content with oem. Some are not. Some people are happy driving 55 mph. I know I am not. Why change something that functions as designed? For improved performance, to be different from the next guy, and because you can.

First, I still think you've kind of missed my point. I never said you shouldn't do mods, just that you shouldn't HAVE to. And my criticism of the 359 is that it seems to have more of a need to be modded than most saws. I'm all for saw mods, but I maintain that it's not for the average customer who expects his saw to run good as he bought it.

Second, we must be on the same time line, because I did all of the same things to the same cars! Back then we had such good starting points, didn't we? The family car was often a Cutlass, Chevelle, or Coronet with a 350 2-barrel size motor, as opposed to the Camrys of today. So, the supply of good cars was plentiful and cheap. Not everyone had a 440 Magnum or 429 Cobra Jet to play with, but with the mods you mentioned, you were at least in the game. Those cars could be made to run pretty strong. It was pretty easy to get the right sound and look, and cruise around with everybody else. Ohhhhhhh, I'm thinking of some good times right now. Thanks for the flashback!!

I don't know about your area, but around here the husky's are a lot more common than the jonsered's because we have few dealers for jonsered. I'm also intrigued that you carry both. We've been told if you have one you can't have the other. On a tangent...what's you opinion of using 20" bars on the 455/460 saws? I prefer 18" but most customers want the longer bar here.

Huskys outsell the Jonsereds in my area about 10-1. And I would say that's the case in most areas. Some guys around here have run Jonny for a long time and still have some loyalty to the brand.

Who told you that you can't have both brands? Did that come from the orange guys or the red guys?

I also prefer the small bars myself. I've got an 18" on my 2171. But we only sell the 455/460 with the 20's. It's all part of that stepping up to "more saw" that I talked about in the earlier post.

Funny thing is that the upside of the added weight of the 400's over the old 55 rancher, is that they are better balanced with a 20" bar. (How's that for turning a negative into a positive?)

Take a look at the MS361 - it has very close to the power of the 365 in the US (the exact same here), and it actually weights less than the 359.......:help: :help:

You should like that one......

Well as long as we are throwing out saws he didn't ask about you may as well get on the list with Baileys for a new Husky 372. Same kind of money as the "mighty" 361....:censored:

372, 372, 372, they love 12 inch hardwood!

Why another small saw if you have 2 already? The 365 is a chunk for the power and won't make the 13lb weigh in.

Your right Spike i'll keep the 55 Rancher Stock it runs good why mess with it. I'll just look for another saw. 359/ jonserd 2159/2165/365 maybe a stihl if i can find a good price but there kinda overpriced

tIMBER YOU SEEM LIKE A PRETTY SMART GUY WHATS WRONG WITH THE 365? WHAT ABOUT THE 359? I DO WANT TO KEEP UNDER $600 AND UNDER OR AROUND 13 LBS

There is nothing truly "wrong" with them, except they have bigger brothers on the same chassis, that weigh the same, with more power output for a little more money. Most people here figure if they're going to lug the weight of a 372 around, they might as well have the power of it as well, instead of almost as much power. Same deal with the 359 and the 357XP. Both are excellent saws, overshadowed by their bigger brothers. In practical usage, the differences are not as noticeable as they are made out to be.

For a firewood saw, either would be an excellent choice given the budget.

That says it well. With the 365 you can run into a few variations, the open port design with a rev limiter (stock) is a dog though I did do up one of these jugs and it turned out quite well, the closed port design with black non rev limited coil is in running with the 372 CC for CC. I do belive the base volume of the 365/372 was designed arround the 372, with the 365 jug on the same case I think it is less than ideal numbers wise.

Personally I like my 359, however I was not at all impressed by it until I ported it and opened up the muffler. I find it to be the saw that suits best for most of the fire wood I do and if there was ever a day that I could only take one saw to the bush to cut fire wood, I would leave the nitrous wildthing, 026, 260, 365, 372/bb and 066/bb at home.

Not bad advice! :greenchainsaw:

...but when discussing 359 vs. 365, the "correct" answer is MS361......:hmm3grin2orange: :hmm3grin2orange:

-you know what they say about opinions....:censored: :dizzy:

what do you people think of husky 346xp vs 359 I am reading and looking at Jonsred tho the 2159

2 different classes of saws there Wayne. The 346 is a fast little saw. Makes a good limbing/brush saw. It won't have the broad powerband like the 359.

Yup!!!!

The 346 is a fine saw, but I wouldn't consider it for firewood duties as my only saw. The 359 is a lot more versatile.

$550 for a stihl 390? ouch...

...yep, stay away from that "deal"........:pumpkin2:

The MS390 is a consumer type saw, and not comparable to the others discussed here.

agreed, and i would expect it to be under 500 anyhwere!

I have a 61. I had a 18" hard nose bar on it and it would bog it you put much force on the dogs. I switched to a roller nose bar and couldn't believe the difference. If you are running a hard nose bar you might have the chain too tight. I think that was part of my problem but the roller nose bar cuts noticeably better.

yup

Hmmmm, that is a high top one - just adds weight and bulk, to no avail (unless you are in extremely dirty conditions), as far as I know..........:greenchainsaw:

The basic air filter system is so good, that there usually are no need for the large air filters on the 372xp.......

And the winner is................Hmmmmmmmm!!!

Sacrificing a little weight for better filtration................:censored:
