Finally had some time to run the 346 today, different is the word that comes to mind. It will cut easily twice as fast as my 350, BUT, you even put a fingers worth of weight more than the saw wants, it's done, everything comes to a stop now!! The 350 is a lot more forgiving when loading or pushing the saw. I will not push this saw on homeowners/firewood cutters any more. Not that it's a bad saw, it just likes to be finnesed and that takes some getting used to.
Here are some pics. I will only imbed one to make it easy on the dialup users.

I did warm it up on some small wood first, this is some 28" cottonwood, I wanted to see "whatllshedo" so I loaded her up, I am not known for being easy on equipment!!!

Thats why I opted for the 353, I liked the idea of a broader power band...

Im definatly not high speed enough to caress the 346xp to keep it in the powerband, though I think it would be fun to run a 346xp and a 353 back to bac k to get a feel for 'how much' more torque the 353 makes.

How long of a bar is on it?

Seem's I've seen that saw somewhere before..

.

Mod the mufflerand get bck with us. My 346 has plenty of grunt in 14-18 sugar maple, which is quit a bit harder than the wood your going to run into in Kansas (except maybe hedge). FWIW I am using 16" bar with 72lg 3/8 chain.

14,700 rpms, dayummmm. Sounds like a little screamer.

i just sent mine out to NWchainsaw to ben to have it wood ported hopefully it will wake her up a little, over all a great saw for my needs. I have not had the problem of slowing down under finger pressure, mine cuts right through everything although 30" timber is a rarity

Thall, you're looking at the Stihl price list again!:D

I was looking at the link Cut put up, $484.00 is what I saw. Is that the correct price for that saw?

I will be cutting a lot of White Oak, hedge, and crap wood. I have it set with an 18" bar .325 .050. Does the muffler mod really help that much with the tourqe?
I am not badmouthing the saw, it's fast as fast gets!!! But I understand the peakiness even more now!!!

Your saying its a tad on the touchy side when it comes to letting it cut. I assume it gets its cutting speed from those high Rpms so makes sense to me. 14,700 is humming..
