Yes, I have. The 7900 looks sort of simular, but as you mentioned the area isnt even close.
I suspect, but do not know for sure that the 7900 has adequate case volume, but too little transfer duct area. Its hard too say for certain without measuring the volume.
FWIW I just got my 346 back from Ed and its hard to imagine a 5100 running with it. Saw is a bad son of a gun.

cool with the 346.

I've got a mean running one too. I'd really like to see a 353 take it, seriously. I've played around with the 353 cylinder and unless Husky changed it to the 346 style cylinder, there's no way i'm buyin it, unless of coarse we are talking an all out alky race saw against my work saw....

Like comparing a 357 cylinder to a 359 cylinder, that is the same setups with the 346 and 353... Put that 357 jug on a 359 bottom end and....it will make a good 372 look just ok. lol

Put that 357 jug on a 359 bottom end and...
I thought they where the same?
FWIW cylinders other than the xp style can be made to run well. You just cant use the same plan of attack when porting them. After all the 440 and 460 can be mde to run well and they dont have xp type cylinders.

Nope.........the 357 and 359 are different. The 357 has the "full circle crank" that limits the case volume. The 359 has no "crank bells" and as far as I have been told has more case volume!

KFtree had a "358" (as he called it) built, 357 jug on a 359 lower end!

The saw was alittle better..............how much I don't know!!!

I relise that any saw can be made to run well. MY 046 BB ran really good for what it was. And my 066 isn't too shabby either, but there seems to be a lot more potential in the XP cylinders.

No they are not the same. The 357 cylinder looks just like a 372 jug made by mahale, and the 353 and 359 are husky's in house design.. I've got a pic, lets see if I can dig it up quick...

here are pics from a 353, which look idenical except the bigger bore. If you know what a 346 and 372 look like, you will see a couple differences

If anyone wants pics of the 346/357 or 372 let me know, I'll have to take them. I lost a lof of my pics when my hard drive crashed.

WELL!!!!!!

Not reall sure what is going on, a lot of what's said is ove my head!! BUT........... As it sitsright now, I have a 346xp looking fora home!!!!! Went out and plyed hardcore in the wood today, I a m BEAT, and the 346 let a bad taste in my mouth for sure!! Didn't do bad on the bigger stuff,8"-12", but get into something around 3', FORGET IT! Something I culd "blip" the throttle and be done with on the 046, took forever to cut with this saw!! I had a hole to fill, and this is not going to work for that! I adjusted the carb all day, tried 3 chains, just not sold! One chain was a brand new out of the box, no better, what am I missing? Seems like it might do better with 3/8's chain? This saw hates white Oak!!

Sorry, been a very long BAD day, cut, carried and loaded 2 1/2 cord by myself, I got hosed, freinds and family!!!!

Sorry to hear Andy. Sounds like you need a tad bigger saw.. The 362 is somewhat of a replacement for your old 262, BTW That guy hasn't Pm'd me back yet, but it weighs the same as a 365, 371 and 372. You might be happier with a 357xp or 359. They have a lot more friendly powerband, and weigh comparable to the 262.

Kinda what I am leaning towards to Doc, a 357 or 361, I am sure this saw has it's place, it's just not fitting in to my life well!!!

Again, not badmouthing the saw, I just need more!!!!

I think he tried to call today, but...... did I mention it was a bad day?

Oh really... Care to show me where this has been said, or stated by Ed? I find that hard to believe because the 353 does not have near the potential that the 346 does. The 346 has the same cylinder as a 372, but a lot smaller, where as the 353 is a half open have closed cylinder, so to speak. ....

It is on his own web-site;) , the mods would kill me if I posted a link here.....:bang: :bang:  :ices_rofl:

Fits 100% with what I have heard! :)

..... I was aware the jugs where differant between the 346/353 and 359/357, but I didnt know the cases where differant too.

The cases are not different, it is just the crank design on the 357 that take up some space....

You look like a perfect candidate to join the MS361 club.....:rockn: :rockn:

Sorry to hear the bad news on the 346. I beat the whee out of mine Thanksgiving morning and it performed great. I kept it below 16" lumber, though.

I saw a post by Bailey's that they have a small shipment of new 372's in for $589 (powerhead only).

Are you on good terms with Santa?
