Amaizing what you can do with a screwdriver!!! THall was very close to the problem, just the wrong way!!! The H was set to max, leaned it out about half way, around the 14.2 mark near as I can tell with my tach, gained about 2k, WOW!!!!! I see how this thing compares to the 372 now!!! Cutting the same 28" cottonwood, it was another saw entirely!!! I could lean on it, yes it would stop, but I had to work a bit to make it stop!!! I must have been just right at the bottom of the range, had enough power to cut, but not enough left over to pull hard. I now see why this saw is so reviered!!! It is BAD AZZ!!!! Troll had me worried a bit about giving up on the 262, but I think this will fill my niche very nicely!!!!
Thanks to all for the help:clap: I knew there had to be more, just hoped I could find it, and thanks to you, I did!!!!!!
Andy

you should set it around 14.5k mark when youre done with run-in if you want to squeze the last drops of power from it...

What's up with these dealers anyways? Seems like all these new saws aren't tuned right. Hell, if they ain't gonna tune'em for ya you might as well buy'em from the net eh? J/K...

He didn't buy it from a dealer, but from another AS member (who is now banned)......

Ohhhhhh

Uh oh, guess that's a sore topic there. Quick question though. Why would you have any saw's H turned out that far? Could this be normal under any circumstance? I can't seem to find anything like that anywhere. None of mine are more than like 1 3/8 out and they hit plenty of rpms.

My 044 was set like that when I got it from the older dude also. The small engine dude I know said it was prolly adjusted by somebody didn't know what they were doing...

Andy;

I did skip a couple pages here, but how many tanks of fuel have you run through the 346? It takes 5 to 10 to fully break in, and you should see some improvement in the mid-range. But like you said, you can never lean on it too much. Just let her rip.

Andy,

I think you'll be shocked at how fast your saw cuts through lumber <12". It's like a motorized machete. About the time you put it on the timber, you're coming through the other side! This is the work where this saw really shines.

I have no idea Spike, I bought the saw used.

I'm not trying to be a turd but sometimes I just shake my head. Earlier someone posted that huskys ran better because of the four port design compared to the Stihls two port design. Then a few posts later, someone stated that Stihl in fact has a four port design also. It wasn't just a few post later then someone had to say well huskys are better because of the area. I bet you could take a husky engine and put Stihl skins around it and let some people run it and they would still say husky ran better than that piece of crap Stihl. To some people it never will matter what Stihl comes out with next because it will either be a copy of something or husky runs better because they use triple wall titanium ferrings on their cylinders or something.:yoyo:

P.S. I am glad to hear your saw is running better. There is nothing worse than spending money on something and then it not work right. I have heard nothing but good things out of that saw. When I get on my soap box I guess I just don't know why people hate Stihl so bad. You would think that it is on par with a wildthing. I have nothing against husky other than the way they do their dealers and the fact that I just don't like the way they feel in my hands sometimes and thats just MHO. Good luck.

The Husky four duct cylinder is quit a bit differant when compared to the Stihl. Husky has more port area and ccv. My original post was in refferance to the total design, not just the number of ducts.
A yugo and a corvette both have 4 tires, but they are not the same.:D

you really think we would have allowed you to buy a husky and then munch it under a tree, dont think so...

An analogy here for the 346 is that it's like a guitar with a really low string action. It's very quick, but it may be prone to buzzing frets and you can't play slide on it.

Husky vs. Stihl is a lot like Fender vs. Gibson isn't it?

Nope all my saws are running fine

The guys dolmar is not, He bought it to replace his 346. good thing he did not get rid of the 346.
this guy uses his saws for carving. don't know if that matters.

My only question is why did they make 346 xp when they already had the 353? That saw is pro grade at a good price in that size range... What am I missing here?

Basicly, the way I understand it, the 346 is a light nimble fas cutting limbing and small felling saw for professional use. The 353 isn't classified as a "pro saw" but is built like one and makes up some of the short comings of the 346 with a bit more tourqe, but not the speed.
If I had my druthers I would own the 353, I just got a good deal on the 346, and it is suposed to lend itself well to mods, so how could I go wrong?
As to why have both, we need someone much smarter to answer that one.
Andy
