I knew exactly what it was. But i dont need another saw. So i was not really that interested. I figured a few of you already had some 8500s, i didnt think they were rare. Im not really interested in the parts for the saw, or the saw really for that matter. I stopped by he sold it, i said ok and left.

He'll, I offered to trade a 044 with 175psi for it and I don’t have a 8500. I call BS on this, a man that can turn a $100 saw into a Stihl 044 and says piss on you, something is bad wrong.

Hey Chris, can you post the link(s) to your recent Poulan 245 video(s) here? Embedded videos on AS just show up as empty boxes with a tiny white square in the corner...............if anything shows up at all.

Thanks

Ah. Now I'm getting it. I've seen those little "S" shaped spacer things before and wondered what the heck they were. That'd explain why I've seen bars listed to fit XL series Homelites and these Poulans, while I've seen others that were listed for one series but not the other.

So that D176 mount is the same for the Poulan 245/306/361/etc and the midsize Echos like the CS451? I hope so, as I have a good 20" spocket nose left over from a CS451VL that I got rid of. I was saving that bar "just in case". Now I know that the "in case" can be an old Poulan. Come to think of it...........I wondered why I saw the midsize Echos listed as taking the same # bars as the Homelite XL12's in my Cutters Choice catalog, when I 'knew' that only the large Echos (CS802 and bigger IIRC) used the D096 mount. Cutter's Choice must've included the "S" spacer thingee with those bars for use with the midsize Echos (and I'm sure the Poulans). Learn something know every day... :D

Yep you got it. That Echo bar can probaly be used on your Homelites as well if you want to file the slot and maybe the adjuster holes out some on it.

The tails are the same size and the oil holes line up the same.

Wish I could find some more of those S clips.

Thanks Mark. I have a friend who's bought many many many XL Series bars over the last four decades or so. It was in one of his piles/boxes of saw junk that I'd first seen an "S" spacer. Don't think I even asked him what it was. I'm sure he has dozens of 'em, and will never use 'em for anything as he doesn't run Echos or Poulans. If I can find 'em, I'll try to send a few to you.

guess there's one in every crowd.... So you know, ClayKann1, this is the one thread that's been drama free since I started it 2 yrs ago or so, You're picking a fight with ModifiedMark who is the single biggest contributor in this thread (and that's an accomplishment considering how many great gentlemen post here regularly). Mark has helped more people on here than you've made posts. If you can't post something here that contributes, that's fine, just don't pick fights, please.

:agree2: Mark has helped me learn more than anyone else on AS.

Guys, Nik is right, this thread here has been the best on the site and has all the best people.

Seems like new guys are coming in all the time and thats a great thing, there more then welcome and needed as well.

I don't know what has all been going on lately, but I know that the BS meter has been going off now and then.

We all have a lust for lime green chainsaws, first and foremost that is what this thread should stay about.

Yes, I dug the old black one out of the garbage and the saw started right up so I threw that stupid brown one in the garbage.

i found an old black one also!!!! what i was meaning is that im pretty sure it was supposed to have the lil flaps on it right??? the guy said he rebuilt the carb it all looked recent he had them in the wrong order but ya see its missing the lil flappers i dont know i know i threw on a old one that was black had the lil flaps and it fired up and is running perfect of course tommorow is another day LOL!

Rambling about saw colors.................or Who the heck let THAT guy in here????

I've wandered into the Poulan thread from time to time. Mostly just lurkin'. The hubub in the last couple of pages was the first drama I've seen in this thread. We've had a bit of that nonesense in the Homelite and McCulloch threads. Haven't spent enough time in the Pioneer thread to know if there's been any drama there. The creamsicle and orange soda guys are always peeing on each other all over the CS subforum. Haven't been in the Dolmar or Jonsered threads much to have a 'read' on them.

Regarding the 'lust' for lime green saws............I do have to say that I'm more enthused about the many non-green Poulans that have been made over the decades. The PP burnt yellow (or whatever you guys call it) looks good to my eyes. I've always liked the red that Poulan painted Sears-bound saws with as well.

Not as crazy about the grey that the 80s Craftsman saws wore. Maybe those preferances come from being a Homelite (and IHC) red and McCulloch yellow nut for decades. I think my aversion to the green and the grey comes from working on so many damn PITA WeedEaters/WeedWackers back in the 80s and 90s. I like the AC and Dayton oranges too. I am a bit eccentric you know...:D

Man! This Poulan Thread is sure getting popular! I posted some pics couple hours ago, and there is like 4-5 pages of new posts..LOL Gettin hard for an old man to keep up.:D

Thanks to all for the comments. I'll ck them out more closely in the next few days to see what they are really like. I didn't notice who made the roller nose bar, but I did notice it said Poulan on it.

I want to 2nd. 3rd. and 4th. the comment that Mark has helped ALL of us out more than alot of people realize. Well, actually I think most do by now.

I never have bad mouthed any brand of saw, and there are many that I wouldn't mind having. But over the last several years my love of green saws
is getting crazy..LOL I spend most of my time on AS in this thread. I think a big part of that is the guys that I have come to know from this thread. Best friends I have ever met. And would help in any way possible, getting an old saw running again.

Im not a big fan of the grey ones either. Poulan used 2 shades of green, the earlier models being more of a yellow green. The Dayton orange is cool. I really like the red on the early to mid 80s craftsman saws, both my 3.7s look real nice in that shade. Finally I think the straight green and green black saws look the best.
And like others said if MM has a wealth of knowledge second to none about the Mean Green.

Yes we know your eccentric!

When I say love for for lime green, that means Poulan! I don't really care about colors myself. My wife says" I want a Bisque colored dishwasher", I say Ok, I don't give a ratts ass about it. LOL

She trys to pick out the color of he new to her car and I say, no, we get the best deal on the car, I don't care what color it is as long as its a Ford. You know what I mean?
