Older Poulans are not very common around here or anywhere in the Great Lakes. I think they're more common down south because thats where they wee manufactured. I see some 3400's on occasion but thats about it, nothing from before 1980. Lots of old Homies, Macs and Dave Bradleys floating around though.

not so, many were manufactured in Ontario Canada

well, you may be right,, i did take it apart when i got it, and polished a couple scratches in the cylinder, then i switched teh 1st & 2nd ring, now they seal better,,, i made a few rip cuts thru some crotches i couldn't split,, and it felt pretty strong,, starts right up, and seems to have good compression,,,, its a nice saw, maybe i should look for the whole top end??

Do you want to sell the 5200?

If you do email me at [email protected]. Or if you know of anybody that has a Re-Coil (Case, cord springs etc. pleaease have them contact me.
Thank You so much!!
I have a poulan 5200 and 6000. I run the 5200 for fun and to impress friends. The power is unbeleaveable. It's more than my muffler modded 064 and close to my muffler modded 066 stihl. I just ran about four tanks of fuel through it sunday cutting dead elm. I use my 6000 from time to time cutting stumps off for my stumpgrinding buisness. It has a 40" bar and pulls it well. They both sound great when they are cutting.

My keyboard won't type the letter that sounds like"see" so you may have to bare with me as it will look like I don't spell very well,(I have a keyboard on my Santa list)lol, I have a Poulan 3400 with hainbrake, that I bought in 1980,Still works great today,I still have the manual and my old reiept says I paid $370 anadian for it,I'm still debating to myself if I should to do a muffler mod or leave it alone,Had to put a arb kit in it last year but other than that it is a great little saw,

The information in the brohure that I have says that engine speed is 8500rpm for the 3400,Is that the top speed that this saw will run and does anybody have a rough quesstimate of how muh horsepower the 3400 has? Thanks you for any info anybody an provide

Welcome to AS, busanova!
I never tached one, but that sounds about right. BSnelling ported a 4000 this summer, and I think he was getting a bit more rpm, 12,000 maybe, my memory is failing me at the moment.:)
Never have heard a HP figure for these saws, they seemed to be more of a tourqy saw, if thats a word. Newer saws these days seem to be higher in the rpm range, than the older stuff. But, I wouldn't think that power is that much less, but chain speed probably so.
Theres a few of us on here that take a shine to the older Poulans. A couple of them much more knowledgable than me. ModifiedMark is kind of the master if you will, on the old Poulans. rmsMoparMike is another one.
There good guys to listen to.

Gregg,

Good company to be included with you guys! Yeah, there's a few of us who do like the poulan saws. I like the 3400-4000 class the best. Maybe its cause ive had good luck with them. I also think they are designed as well as any saw I've seen, and that makes them easy to work on, and run. I just picked up a real nice 3400 2 weeks ago, low hour saw, just needs a clutch cover.

I would leave the 3400 stock if it was me, Mines totally stock. I don't care if it cuts faster just wanna leave it like it was. They are a good saw. Welcome to As too, we have a few poulan heads here. Some good ole saws for sure.

What stihl sawing said.:agree2: A well done muffler mod might be the only thing that one might do to them. They run and cut great as is. I don't think I'd cut any more wood than I do, if my saw was running at 15,000 rpm, than at 8500.:) Except, if you are cant racing..lol

Gregg,

i have the same saw as 7 but mine is a 46 (and the muffler screen is missing, too). probably just a model change with minor updates. i don't remember what the displacement is on that saw. it will run with mix down the throat, so i am assuming i just need a carb kit. i will probably do the lines while i am at it.
this is an uggggggleeeee saw. it has the lines of a cardboard box.

Old Poulans

I have a S25 deluxe, just used it today.
I also have a project Poulan 361 which could use a starter pawl spring &
a 4200 & 5400 I use for big wood. They all run.

I was going to order from you a while back, but could not justify
the shipping charges. I look at the bottom line when buying parts.

Poulan S25 Deluxe

Just recently got one of these little guys. Seems to run good, havn't cut with it yet. Seems like it might be a handy thing, time will tell. A lot of them out there, so to call myself a Poulan Guy", thought I better get one.:)

Gregg,
I had one of those years ago, They are light and easy on the back. They also cut really well. I run that saw for a many years before i run over it and a 3.7 craftsman with the truck. Made me sick to the stomach. My two best saws trashed. Barneyrb gave me a rebadged one at the GTG we had. Gonna try and fix it up, Definitely needs a bar and chain.
