Yeah you can't swap P-655 pistons with P-60/61 cranks. I tried finding a custom wrist pin bearing that would make up the difference too with no luck (and I have an assortment of over 85 different sizes of wrist pin bearings.)

JJ,thanks for the info on that. I wondered if there was a bearing with bigger rollers that could make up the difference.

Ed here is a pic of the P61 piston. What kind of shape is the cylinder in? It'd be a shame to put a new piston into a less than (near) perfect jug.

The boost-port piston fit the P65 and the Poulan Pro 655 as well as a couple of concrete saws like the KS615 and K65. To make the whole setup work in the P60/61/62 you would need to change the crankshaft and bearings to the ones used in those saws as well.
It became complicated after Poulan took these saws over so let me know if I'm missing anything, guys.

Ed, the 476208J piston should be a thin-ringed piston which was the last one made and superceded all previous P60/61/62 pistons. It had a special cam ground profile for better heat dissipation and it is stamped "CP" on the inside. This is the one I am sending to you.

Rottman's gave you the 476622 Poulan piston which likely was pulled from a cylinder kit and was then improperly labled.

Brendon.

The jug is in great condition, but I may be interested in a new one if you have one you'll part with. :)

Sorry Ed but there's not enough tea in China to buy this one as it's already slated for a future project. I'm going to build a P62W like the P42W I built for my son and the P52W I'm building now. There will be a trio for my 3 kids to inherit. I'm afraid if I let it go, I'd never find another. I'm sure you understand.
However... if I find another I'll be sure to let you know.

I understand perfectly! I found a new thin ring piston/cylinder for the P41 today. I got it for next to nothing. My P41 runs like a top with 150lbs of compression, but new pistons and cylinders don't come around too often for the P41. I wouldn't consider letting it go. The one I have for the P60 is in great shape to begin with, but I always like the thought of new.

Pioneer Parts

fellows I have been following the last pages of threads and am in the same boat myself. Just ordered pistons and pins from Rottmans for a 655 and a P62. Will let you all know what I receive maybe next week. My 655 definitely has the thicker piston rings and I have several thin sets of rings for a P60-P62. Hope my piston they ship for my P62 will accept the thin rings??
I also have 2 cylinder kits for the P51. One for a spare and the other is trading material when I break something.

When I spoke with them yesterday over the piston, I asked if they had any thin ring pistons, and they told me no. They are usually very helpful and knowledgeable there. I did get the feeling she did not want to check, as she insisted that this would fit the P60 and was an upgrade. After Jacob J and Brendon mentioned the wrist pin, I quickly determined it would not work. Good luck with your parts, I hope they fit. I thought of calling them back today and telling them about the pin difference, but never did. It is possible somebody put the 655 piston in the wrong zip-loc with the P60 numbers on it. Well thanks to Brendon it worked out anyway. :)

Ed
Rottmans responed to my email for parts last week and prices were not cheap but they had all the parts I needed. A second source was way out of line on price. I called and talked to Larry on the phone. We talked Pioneer for about 10 min. He was very helpful and answered any questions I had. The 655 parts they are sending are for a rebuild. I already have a complete kit. I don't own a P52 in my collection Just a target 5212 cutoff. I am thinking the other kit will make a hot P52 when I find one.

Jeff, In the past I spoke with Kevin Rottman, and yes he is very knowledgeable and loves to talk Pioneer. I requested him when I called, but the woman I spoke with insisted she could help. Yes, most stuff is not cheap, but some is. There gaskets are reasonable, I think I paid $1.50 for the case gaskets and .85 for the base. Thats pretty good prices.

Anyone here know where a guy could find a piston and rings for a Pioneer 2400? Are there not aftermarket parts for these old saws?
I realy don't want to go to the extent of having one made at a machine shop. The saw has a brand new cylinder jug and all new bearings, its just waiting for a nice paint job and piston and its ready to go.

Aviator 25,Man did you come to the right place!I bet it won't be too long before you have an answer to your question. The Pioneer TOP GUNS hang here.Good Luck!

Aviator, I might have have that piston you're after but I won't be able to check until Thursday. Unfortunately I'm away until then.

Pioneer 2400

If anyone has the part # for the 2400 piston and rings let uis know. I also have a pile of old parts but no liisting for the 2400. Think it's the same bore and stroke as a 3270??

According to Acres site, they are the same bore and stroke.

According to all my Pioneer factory manuals the 2400,2460,3200 and 3270 all take the same piston and rings. All have a 2" bore and 1.5" stroke.
Piston part # 428127 and rings # 428335.

I have an old chainsaw repair manual and in the pioneer section it too showes the 2400, 3200, 2460, and 3270 as having the same bore and stroke and being somewhat the same saws. It seems that the 2400 and 3200 are pretty much the same saw. The only diffrerence between them and the 2460 3270 is that the 2460 3270 have automatic oilers.
If you guys could help me find a piston and rings I would realy appreciate it. I am putting this saw together for my fother for christmas, he is quite a pioneer fan and has always loved cutting wood. Though he is getting a little too old for cutting wood he still likes to cut the odd tree here and there. I just hope I can get it done in time for christmas.
