Its interesting i contacted that company to let them know i would be willing to contract on a per-tree basis, but they said they pulled out, that the job went bad. Not sure what that means, but i do know they had a lot of money invested, they had 15 guys they brought with them from back East, all their equipment, etc.
Disasters releaf is funding that program and P&G is the prime, and everyone else are subs. Theres crews from all over the USA. But i doubt any of them all prepared for our west coast timber. Its a whole different animal removing 200 foot dead beetle trees and doing so without harming any healthy trees.
I broke a limb on a little oak tree once you'd of thought i felled General Shermen.

It don't take much to get kicked off the mountain. We were working the Arrowhead area for the Cal Edison bark beetle removals in 2003 and I saw several companies sent packing,

The bore cut and back release gives the logger an average of 3-5 seconds more escape time, which ican make the difference between life and death over the course of a long career in the woods..
I go back and forth between using most of the time and then not... When I first learned it, I tried it on just avbout every tree, just for the practice.. It gets you thinking a little ore about exactly how and why you want the hunge to be... I think its an extremely valuable tool in the bag of tricks.. all kinds of other uses for a good plunge too.. I ended up using it for things that I never would have imagined before I got familiar with it...
