All are Mahle jugs......
The transfers are MUCH higher in the "special" one.
That one is the oldest I think......it was on a 046 rather than a MS460.
The higher the transfers, the more the engine will pollute......EPA is the reason they got lowered.....
It's the jugs off the first year of 046 production saws- summer of '96 to summer of '97 that are the best. In June of '97 they had to change the timing numbers on the cylinders...and that's the run (June '97 to December '97) that got bad PTO side bearings that would only last about 30-40 days in the woods, or around 120-200 hours.

Welp, I'm leaving in the morning for NC. The jugs are all done (I just now finished them) and Jon will assemble the saws while I'm gone.
That means there will be no more saw gut pics.
One of the 460s needed a complete rebuild. The bottom end is done, and the new Meteor piston should be here tomorrow. The hybrid is also waiting on a new piston.....
When I get back I'll get a video of all six of em idling at once.......that should be pretty cool.

The transfers are at 116 in that jug Brad.
I've never had a degree wheel on Dad's saw. It's all stock except for a little muffler work. I'll never port it. It means too much to me to mess with.
Jacob, do you know the serial # range to look for???
Your dad knew exactly what he was doing.
Another question, I know Brad's Dad's saw was a factory dual port. Did they have different port timing?
I have that in notes at home somewhere.
I was with him when he bought it. He was buying a replacement for his stolen 038 Mag II. He was looking at the 044 and I talked him into the 046. I knew little to nothing about saws back then though.
Sorry about the derail Randy. I have to talk up Dad's saw every chance I get.

Derail away my friend.......this thread is played out with me taking off an stuff.
Here's how a 046 muffler ought to look. This is factory original on the muffler opening. I did open up the DP cover a little. It's no wonder they ran so much better back then.
The SN on Dad's saw is 133908217. He bought it on 08/31/1996.
