Cool old saws, got one a few weeks ago. There are better people than me to tell you what to do. I would pull that filter and intake to the carb and check for dirt in it, then shoot some fine oil or lube in the open carb, pull the plug and do the same, pull the muffler and clean that area. Good Luck. KZ

What oil do you put in the gear drive? Cleaned spark plug and fuel tank and she fired up. Need to fill gear oil

I can't find what is recommended, but at that time I would think sae. 30 or 20 non-detergent would have been used.

If you guys want I will send you the shop manuals.
Just Send me a PM to remind me. There on my computer and I left it at work today. I have a few different ones that should help you out.

Glad that you jumped in, I figured that 30 would have done fine in a low use box. I can always use another manual, but will most likely turn the Wiz at the flea market. (to many saws)

Did you ever get that C52 running?
I cleaned out the crud from the exhaust and intake, gave it a shot of mix and it fired. I was ready to add gas and took a close look at the tank, in the bottom of the front cover are several small holes. I pulled the cover and that is as far as I have gone.

When I restored my 1020, It had a ton of pin holes at the bottom of the tank, but none of them leaked, I filled them with all metal body filler and painted over them, the pin holes look good still. I still haven't figured out how/what to use to seal the tank halves, and bolt holes with out them leaking.

I use Permatex Anaerobic Gasket Maker 51817 (6ml size) or 51813 (50ml size) along with 24163 Surface Prep Activator for Anaerobics. Done several and never had a leak. The last one I did was a John Deere 15 combination fuel and chain oil cover.

I don't know if it was mentioned but all C series starter assemblies are not the same. There are two different systems and are interchangeable as long as the flywheel and starter assembly are both changed. One uses dogs and the other is the friction type. The one with the flat cover on the starter are the best like on the red saw in a previous pic.

Any tips on installing new clutch springs on a Super 2100?
Got a socket the right diameter to slide the spring down on but the new spring won't give enough to get it slid down on the socket. Those are some tough springs. [emoji31]

Patience. Start one area in the groove and roll it around the edges. Similar to mounting a tire.
