yeah he said he gonna teach me a few tricks on spraying properly, ive worked with him a few times spraying truck trailers and big stuff but nothing small and detailed

Small world, my last job was painting for a "Motor Body Builders" trays, tippers,
trailers, tautliners.
I lasted 10 years (not sure how I hated it) :)

yeah my mate pete been quitin for the last 2 years but he still there, our boss buys all these "special" bits of gear that need a whole lot of body [bog] work!

Wow! I can’t believe the amount of knowledge, information and collections of Pioneers that are posted in this forum!

I have an OMC chain saw. I'm wondering if anyone knows any more history on it, like how many were produced, what year, etc. There is very little information on this chainsaw on the web and doesn’t seem like there is many of them out there.

What really prompted me to post is seeing that last picture of the GMAXs 620 and how identical it looks to my OMC.

I hope I'm not barking up the wrong tree in this forum with the OMC. I figured it would be a good place for me to start learning how the forums work.

Disston, That looks to be in nice shape, do you have the glass fuel bowl? (it's missing in the pic), I'm not sure why the model number is not stamped on
the ID badge, but on my 620 it is:confused:

Sanding fibreglass was the worst, I used to itch for a week afterwards :censored:, but It was handy to learn about it.
I needed lots of beers to wash away the dust

Omc

Yes I do have a fuel bowl for it and the saw is complete. I started taking it apart and thought I better take some pics before I get to far. Its been sitting around for many of years so I took the carb apart and cleaned it as good as I could. The saw runs good, however I still have to work on the adjustments for the idle.

Anyone have a owner manual for the 620 scanned that I could have a copy of? Im sure it would help me tune it up.

I'm just getting into restoring saws so any info you got would be appreciated

Thanks!

The Pioneer guys must be off restoring some saws! I know very little about these saws, but here is a bit of info to keep you going.

By the looks of your saw, it was quite a bit before Pioneer bought out OMC in 1977.

Here is the basic rundown of the timelines:
- OMC bought out IEL (Pioneer) in 1956.
- OMC quite making chainsaws in 1977.
- Pioneer employees form group to take over operation (LMBO?) in 1977.
- New group starts producing saws in 1978.
- Pioneer sold to Electrolux in 1983.*
- Pioneer become Pioneer/Partner

*When the "Pioneer" doors closed they were testing the P35, few of which made it out the door. They are super rare and if you ever come across one it would definitely be worth grabbing.

HTH

You did real good there Chris, the info you gave Disston is all good, the only thing I picked up on was the statement that the 650 was made to replace the RA. Actually the model 600 was the one to do that. The RA was the last of the sand cast mould saws made by IEL. The model 600 was the first of the die cast saws made by Pioneer. The 610 was the next model then the 620 and then the 620 Super with the model 650 as the last of the 600 series of saws. For various reasons the 600 series saws are the ones I have the most affinity for and the RA was actually the first IEL/Pioneer chainsaw that I ever used to cut with, the model 600 was my dads first new saw that he owned and it became mine when I turned 13 years old.

Welcome to the site and this thread that is mostly devoted to the Pioneer chainsaws. Your saw is the model 650 and was the last of the 600 series of Pioneer saws. There was a lot of them made here in Peterborough Ontario Canada. The 650 is not considered rare but finding them in good to excellent condition is getting harder all the time. I have a few of the 600 series and have worked on them for over 40 years now as a end user and mechanic. If you have any questions or need info myself and many others on here will chime in and try to help you out. Petesoldsaw [ Lawrence ] may be able to help you out with IPL`s or manuals, he checks in often so a little patience and he will surely be along.

Got my 3270 running a couple of nights ago...........wow..the sound, dont think it needs a muffler mod!It sounds so much deeper than my Husky 61(wouldnt compare to the new age fast revving 450),amazing stuff, really excited about restoring this saw but wanna give it what its used too, bucking wood.So gonna cut up at least 2 cord before giving her the "dulux" overhaul.
Went out this morning, cold as and give her a pull, ding, ding, ding:greenchainsaw:,awsome saw with age and history!!,Ive now got a new friend:)

I`ve been doing the same thing for over 45 years and it still gets to me every time I take one of my Pioneers out ,start it up and do some cutting. The heavy rumble from the bigger cube 600 series saws has held my interest it seems forever.

Is there any way of telling the age of my 3270???

The model 3270 was only made for about 4 years starting around 1969 and ended around 1972. If you know what carb number you have then it can be narrowed down further as the carb numbers changed over that perion of production.

Pioneer Parts

Does anyone know of a Pioneer dealer that has NOS parts? I need the chain tensioner plate for my 1073 still. I have found a Poulan part guy a Jonsereds part guy now I need a Pioneer parts contact!

Carb indicates its a Tillotson HS39B,amazing what a bit of light does.

Some where in the mid production run around 1970-71 from the carb used. I don`t know any way to determine the production year from the serial number, some one on here may have that info but I have not come across anyone with that info.
