You don’t want aluminum at least the way the new Ford f series is they peel open like pop cans over the slightest little bumps and the frames are like 12ga sheet metal in thickness and steel.
Yeah, you're right. I've heard bad things about the Ford aluminum. Perhaps that thickness might suffice on a small passenger vehicle, but on anything meant to haul loads, it's crazy to get dings or even holes. Stainless steel would be a good alternative that few cars other the Delorean had.

We had one in the body shop that had both front fenders peeled open after getting wedged between a tree and a dump trailer. At least the side panels will tear/peel from minor stuff that said I’ve also seen dodge caravans peel open from being side swiped.
